I decided to do something new and interesting this year, and so far I am not too disappointed. I've also learned that my girlfriend is terribly short-sighted. She's leaning over my shoulder now and can't read it properly. The main thing that I'm doing is cooking / making something new in the kitchen every week. So far I'm on track, having just done my 4th new creation this evening. It doesn't have to be much, just something new, as you'll see in week two.
In the first week I made a presto pesto thing that was on Nat's blog from last year (or the year before). It's awesome. It's a slice of bread with pesto and goat's cheese and melted mushrooms on the top. Delish. I also made a new smoothie with sorbet, yogurt, apple and blackcurrent juice and a banana. Also good.
In week two I made pasta and meatballs, which I've done before but I made the sauce for the first time, from scratch.
In week three I made an Italian sausage mix with beans. It was too salty for my liking, and I don't want to make it again.
Tonight I made a chicken in a white sauce. Simple, yes, but I have always been unsuccessful in making a white sauce, and now I can make rice in a funky new way. It was good. I made too much, but so what.
The point of all the new cooking is to expand my repetoire in the kitchen. I've complained about it before and every year I want to do something about it, so now I'm happy that I'm finally getting it done. Plus, Andy says that I rock in the kitchen, which is good :)

Andy wants me to add:
She loved the Italian sausage mix and wants me to make it again. Next time I will use different sausages, so that it won't be so salty.
Also, the white sauce always failed in the past because I wasn't using full cream milk, which was her idea, so she made me go and buy some today, and it worked! I thank Andy for that.
I hate cooking, and I can't make a white sauce either. Jason can make an excellent white sauce even with fat-free milk. We always said he was in this relationship to make white sauces, and I am here to separate eggs and grease/flour cakepans (both things he can't do well).
