Abu huh?

Wow. And I mean a serious wow. Thirty seconds before typing this up (and this is how fast weird-ass thoughts and decisions can occur, especially while listening to Nirvana unplugged (he was my age when he offed himself, or when Courtney did it, either way . . . oooo, new Facebook email, must read)

So while listening to Jesus and his sunbeam not a wanting, I glanced at imdb and thought that it would be really cool to live in Abu Dhabi for a year.

Yeah.

No idea where that came from. Not a clue. I’ve never thought about living in the middle east before, but the moment it dawned on me it seemed like an excellent decision. And not just an ordinary excellent decision, but THE decision. Since the first half of 2009 will see me still in Spain, and the second half in Australia, maybe 2010 will have me in the Mid-East.

I wonder if they have good Indian food there.

Weird-ass thought. I wonder if it’ll pass by the morning. Or by the weekend. Because the longer it stays as ‘a good idea’, the more problematic it’ll become. Although, I can’t wait to see the reaction on my folks’ faces if I told them.

Unfortunately, right now it has the same tone and resonance as “fuck it, I want to learn Spanish,” and look where that got me.

Abu Dhabi is a bit more conservative than its sister city Dubai, but it's more authentic too. By conservative, I mean you probably won't get away with public drunkenness or having sex on a public beach... but then you won't have to step over drunks and fornicators either, so it's not a bad thing.

Muscat, the capital city of Oman, is far nicer, safer, and more diverse than any part of the UAE, by the way. Don't tell anyone that. I wouldn't want it ruined for my children.
