Things I learnt today.

Things I learnt today:

Stephanie Meyer, who wrote the Twilight series, is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That seems unusual, especially as Anne Rice was an atheist and came under heavy fire from the christians, and she became born-again and refused to write another vampire book.

Two of my professors who speak English excellently but are not native speakers, both believe that the word ‘genre’ is pronounced without the ‘re’ at the end.

That it is possible to survive a day of uni on 2.5 hours of sleep and a mug of espresso. I do not recommend either option to anyone.

No one knows where one of my professor’s office is, even the building concierge will tell you that it’s in a different building and give a non-existing office number.

The Count of Monte Cristo is bloody long.

Andrea, who is an only child, has more sisters, nephews and cousins than you’d imagine. If I didn’t have photographic proof and a detailed family history I’d swear that she’s nuts. But she’s cute, so I’ll let her have her loopy moments :)

People with strange names are united in their one-upmanship.

The butler did it.

One of the reasons Meyer is so successful is BECAUSE she's LDS. Probably 75% of her fan base is LDS. the Mormons who normally won't read books written for the national market will read ones written by other Mormons because they assume the books will stick to basic Mormon rules. That's true in the case of Twilight. There's no swearing, there's no sex, and it's all really, really tame. Of course, not all Mormons are equally supportive. There are a handful who think she should be excommunicated for writing non-LDS fiction, and for suggesting that even in a fantasy book, there'd be such a thing as immortality, vampires, or anything else contrary to God's plan. Yeah.

Okay I give - how does Andrea have brothers/sisters/cousins if she's an only child?

I haven't started reading Cristo yet.

Another thing to learn, if it hasn't already been learned: characters in Heroes never, ever die, no matter what. If you haven't watched it yet, you'll find out soon enough.
