Debt Collectors

Guess what? The debt-collectors from Virgin Mobile have sent in their heavy-hitters and I've been referred to a debt collection agency, and they have sent me a lovely letter telling me to pay up.

This is despite settling everything on 18 May.

So I’ve been going over all the bills and notices. Let’s see if you can keep up.

2008
18 Mar - enter into an audio contract (with a term of 6 months) with Virgin.
05 Jul - Leave the country for a year.
12 Dec - formally cancel the contract. Since then my folks were paying for the bills and had tried to cancel it themselves, Virgin delayed and said that I had to do it. So I did.

2009
12 Jan - Receive a ‘your service is about to be suspended, please pay your bill within 7 days’ notice. Somehow I’ve been charged a late fee.
14 Jan - Virgin cancels my account. Isn’t that nice? A whole month after I cancel, they cancel, thus allowing for another billing cycle to commence.
20 Jan - Receive another bill. Apparently cancelling an account does nothing.
16 Mar - Receive another ‘your service is about to be suspended, please pay your bill within 7 days’ notice. It is identical to the first.
20 Mar - Another bill!
20 Apr - Another bill!
07 May - Receive an ‘Urgent - Final Notice’ letter. Now they mention debt collectors.

18 May - I settle the issue with Virgin, they realise their mistake. Here’s the blog.

20 May - Another bill!
03 Jun - I receive a random letter about late payment fees increase.
20 Jun - Another bill!
29 Jun - I return from overseas.
13 Jul - The debt collectors notice. Pay in 7 days or else!

I sent the debt collectors an email. I’m not sure yet if this means that I no longer have to deal with Virgin, but hopefully yes. Either way I’m prepared to face them off in court over this.
